Imagine a day with the sun shining brightly, a gentle breeze rustling through the trees, and the sound of water cascading over rocks. Such days are common in Patagonia, where the weather can be as enchanting as the fishing itself. Whether you prefer wading through the rivers or floating on a drift boat, each day brings new opportunities to explore different stretches of water and cast your line into pools teeming with eager trout.

The Thrill of Fly Fishing:
Fly fishing is the preferred method in Patagonia, as it allows anglers to present their imitation flies delicately and entice the trout to strike. The sight of a big brown trout rising to snatch a fly from the water's surface is a heart-stopping moment that anglers cherish. From casting dry flies during hatches to swinging streamers in search of aggressive predators, the techniques and possibilities are as diverse as the landscapes themselves.

Beyond the Fishing:
While the trout fishing in Patagonia is undoubtedly the main attraction, the region offers much more than just angling opportunities. Patagonia is a land of staggering natural beauty, with snow-capped peaks, expansive glaciers, and wildlife-rich national parks. When you need a break from the excitement of fishing, take a moment to soak in the breathtaking vistas or explore the trails that wind through this majestic landscape. Immerse yourself in the local culture and savor the delicious cuisine, including traditional Argentine asados (barbecues) and world-class wines.

Conclusion:

One of them, Joe Brooks was the creator of the known Boca fever term, in reference to the Chimehuin Boca and the special feeling of fishing there.
A couple of days ago, the weather turned really bad, windy, rainy and cold, which means for every fly fisherman, it´s the boca time! A couple of calls later and I had a partner to head to that beautiful and full of great history of Argentina fly fishing place.
The day, really windy and cold but without rain, so we thought the perfect day to catch a really nice brown.
You need to cast long and through your left shoulder unless you are left handed caster, with a long cast to reach the best spots.
Depending on where you are, it´s necessary to deal with huge eddies, cross current, trees in the back cast, rocks near the surface and some more obstacles making it a real challenge to fish there.
We started really early and we were almost getting into the lake and then going downstream almost getting in to the channels.
A couple of flies lost and the first brown hit my streamer, a nice brown with silver tone, maybe on the 18", very powerful and we guess just entered from the lake.

A new round and at this point trying to make everything perfect, looking for a really good swim of the streamer, giving to him some live movement during the drift, and on the second strip the line stops really hard and I set fast with the rod, making the big brown jump out of the water!
At this point, my head was going at a 1000 mph, my heart pumping really fast and
I called my partner just to see the second big jump. The fight
got really hard and I was remembering all the old stories I read about this place and I can almost feel like I´m living one of them while I was fighting that trout!

After a couple of long minutes, where the brown went to the middle of the current, deep into the pool and at last ran upstream I landed it near the bank in low water and my partner took this really nice pic where you can see my huge smile while I had those stories of many years ago in my head.

As soon as I put it back into the water, the brown swam slowly and downstream, back to the deep pool where I caught it.

As you can imagine, I´m going to come back to this magical place since I caught the "Boca fever"!
We were fishing with streamers, nymphs and dries depending on the river conditions but this year the attractors shone more than usual.
We are getting into the last months of the season and one of my favorite times for fishing since the big browns start moving from the lakes into the rivers with the first fall rains making every cast a potential monster strike!
We enjoyed with our clients all the magnificent sceneries, great barbecues, lamb and goat, argentine wines and of course the amazing fishing with rainbows and browns in the cristal water streams we have all around.

We are going to keep enjoying the great Patagonia for the next months of the season!
This week, we were fishing really well, especially at Huechulafquen and Epulaufquen Lakes where we enjoyed the weather and caught pretty nice brown and rainbow trout on dry flies where the star was the royal wulf. We also got some on streamers like the zonker rabbit black on a #6 hook. We used a #5 line rod with floating, sinking tip and shooting lines.
After that, we went to a camp site at the Malleo River, one of the worldwide mecas of trout fly fishing, where we needed to put smaller flies on #16 / #14 hooks, we had to go to 4x tippet and improve our presentation, since this is a river with very clear water easy to wade and more technical. We used #5 rods since you can catch really good brown trout up to 5 pounds! The fishing started out slow but improved with some nice rainbows. We expect the arrival of the willow tree worm, which makes these waters explode every summer.
We continued north to the Quillen River where we stayed in a warm and cozy house, fully equipped near the river and after getting settled we ran to the waters with a #3 line rod, #16 hook flies and 5x tippet. At noon the fishing was amazing and the last 45 minutes of sunlight over the mountains where the activity was unbelievable!!!
We fished with dry flies where the elk air caddis and the royal wulf shine. Also, the madam X in #8 hook at sunset received violent catches.
A great selection of Argentinian wines were a part of all dinners, as well as gin tonic and the last night we enjoyed an exquisite lamb barbecue, one of the owner´s specialties who received us as if we were part of the family.
We´ll continue enjoying this season great fly fishing with our clients and friends.

Tight lines.
